The deal, brokered by Meta Corporate Finance, the specialist corporate finance adviser based in Pembury, near Tunbridge Wells, sees Bill Philps become Chief Executive at Set Meals, alongside Neil James the company’s existing Operations Director. Bill Philps was previously Chief Executive of the cleaning and catering division of the Bateman Group, the contract catering specialists.
Set Meals has been established for over 15 years and, while based in London, its staff travels all over the country and overseas catering for film and television production units. Employing more than 40 people, the business operates eight fully equipped and professional mobile kitchens.
The company, which counts many significant film and television productions amongst its credits, has worked on television shows such as Jonathan Creek, and Two Pints of Lager and a Packet of Crisps together with films such as Saving Private Ryan and Captain Corelli’s Mandolin. For the filming of Captain Corelli’s Mandolin, there was a Set Meals catering unit on location in Cephalonia for three months.
Alyson Howard, Director at Meta, who acted on behalf of the new management team, said: “From the outset this was an exciting transaction to work on. Set Meals is a business with an enviable track record and reputation in a very specialist area. Bill and Neil are now ideally placed to build on that and take the company forward in a strong fashion.”
Commenting on the deal, Bill Philps said: “Alyson’s close and effective input enabled us to complete this purchase and we are delighted to have bought Set Meals. We believe that running a cheerful catering team, coupled with healthy and interesting menus, is the fuel that helps keep the British film industry running and we plan to further grow our business with that philosophy.”
